What is National Charity League?
National Charity League is a service organization supporting mother/daughter relationships through volunteering together to help others.
NCL operates under a three pillared approach with equal focus on philanthropy, leadership development, and cultural awareness.
More information is available on the National Charity League website.
NCL Allen Chapter:
|
The Allen Chapter of NCL was founded in 2011 by a group of service-oriented women looking for an opportunity to bond with their daughters while leading them to develop a love for serving others.
The chapter has grown to a membership of 207 members, including mothers (patronesses) and their daughters (ticktockers) in grades 7 through 12. Members of the Allen Chapter reside in the Allen and LoveJoy school districts, representing 9 schools.

 |
As a service organization run by its volunteers, NCL requires that each member, both mother and daughter, serve in a position benefitting the chapter. In addition, ticktockers and patronesses meet separately once per month.
Besides serving the community, the Allen chapter enjoys several other Mother/Daughter activities, such as cultural outings, a style show presented by the junior class, and a chapter-wide tea party.

Philanthropy
|
One major focus of National Charity League is to promote community service.
The Allen Chapter performed over 2800 hours of community service during its first year, serving 12 organizations in and around Allen. Every member of NCL Allen is required to work a minimum number of hours to maintain membership, but many members exceed the requirements.
Members enjoy serving in a variety of areas, including stocking food pantry shelves, sorting clothes in the resale shop, greeting troops returning from deployment, playing Bingo with senior citizens, helping younger students with homework, and others.

|
Each Ticktocker class performs at least one group service project per year. There are also Big Sister/Little Sister class philanthropy events and chapter-wide philanthropy events.
Members volunteer as a group through chapter-wide events, in small groups, and individually, and have lots of fun doing it!

Leadership Development:
 |
The second main goal of National Charity League is to develop young women into strong community leaders.
Ticktockers participate in a six year leadership development program combining education and hands on experience. Each year emphasizes an additional area of leadership development. A ticktocker performs committee work and holds various leadership positions within her grade level throughtout her six years of membership. All members must serve annually in a position serving the chapter.
|
Cultural Awareness:
|
The third pillar of NCL is Cultural Awareness. The Allen Chapter strives to create an environment that nurtures positive identity by recognizing and appreciating the value of differences in each other and the world. Through the six year cultural development plan, ticktockers explore issues such as etiquette, body image, internet safety, personal style, dating, substance abuse, and communication. Each class also attends an annual cultural event within the community, exploring areas such as musical theater, the symphony, the art of gardens, museums, and dance.
The Allen Chapter plans and executes an annual style show, featuring the junior class as runway models. Each class also enjoys a special Father/Daughter outing. In the spring, a successful year is celebrated at a Mother/Daughter Tea.

Membership in NCL is fun, fulfilling, and rewarding. Through the six year program, members work hard, serve others, develop important leadership skills, broaden their cultural horizons, and celebrate their achievements. |
